It is with sadness and pain that we had to update the site today with the unfortunate news of the monumental passing of Biggie’s loving mother, Voletta Wallace. Voletta Wallace or as we would call her, Mama Wallace, passed away on 2/21/2025. She was only 72 years young when she left us so soon, after all these years.

Years ago, when the site was being conceptualized before it went live in 1999, we were trying our best to communicate with Mama Wallace. We wanted to assist her in helping out the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation which was established after Biggie’s unfortunate passing to give back to our communities. This was around the time the Born Again album was released. One of the first ideas I presented was to assist in helping get the word out on the Brooklyn Mint Clothing Line she was managing for her now deceased and legendary son, Christopher Wallace who established the company back in 1996.

After many attempts, I would finally get to communicate with her directly through my luck. I was able to let her know at the time she had a very large fan base especially outside of the U.S., who were members of our forum. I wanted to donate my time to helping the community by giving back in any way shape or form and my efforts were not in vain.

Throughout the months, I would reach out to her and follow up on how she was doing and try to figure out a plan on how to create an online shop for Brooklyn Mint and for the CWMF.
We would have conversations like mother and son and she would give us updates on the stock of shirts she had (since she was selling the shirts to help fund the charity). We brainstormed and decided to try to sell the additional shirts she had in stock on the site I created specifically for Brooklyn Mint. Once we put the temporary site up with order info, she was shocked on our follow-up call and advised me that she was receiving orders domestically and internationally, thanks to the temporary site. After the success of this process, she asked to meet me in person. We agreed when she was in NYC again, she would come to Brooklyn to meet me or visa versa depending on her busy schedule, since she was managing most aspects of CWMF ect.

We decided to meet in downtown Brooklyn for the very first time in front of the legendary Juniors Cheesecake restaurant. I remember when I arrived there, I got off the B54 bus and As I was rushing to the location I could see waited for me even though my bus was running late. Her driver walked to her door and opened her side door and there, I was greeted by Voletta for the first time. We hugged and she said, "Thank you for reaching out and doing so much for my son." She even gave a little surprise gift bag with all the shirt designs she had at the time for the Brooklyn Mint line. She also included a rare CD recording of her outro of Born Again album.

We were able to get more traffic to the site to spread the word. We were able to help Mama Wallace get those limited edition T-shirts out to the fans and eventually gain more traction to more shirts ordered. Mama Wallace would also host additional charitable events and we would meet at the local public school In Brooklyn to try to promote the Brooklyn Mint site to get more shirts sold which helped the CWMF re-direct these funds to needy daycare centers and schools that needed books and computers throughout the states.

Mama Wallace even invited me to a B.I.G. Night Out in 2003 and covered my fee for a $1,000 plate just to be part of this extravagant night. She allowed us to see how powerful our voices in the community are when we get together for a wonderful cause to celebrate the lives of many of our fallen young voices including her only son she lost in 1997. She embraced me and made me feel like I was just as important as her Son and let me mingle with such powerful voices like one of my heroes Mike Tyson, who I sat next to and spoke with. I also got to see Jay-Z, Reverend Al Sharpton, Ed Lover, and even Pattie Labelle who belted such a beautiful and memorable performance for the charity that night and received a standing ovation.

Even with all the high-powered people and news media there, Voletta was making sure we were all comfortable. She even let the organizers reserve a gift bag exclusively ordered in advance for me. Voletta and I would communicate throughout the years and she would always make some time for your call. Mama Wallace had a powerful motherly energy that motivated you to continue to update the fans with any news related to her late son Christopher Wallace through this site.

Her essence was powerful and when she looked you in the eyes, she had a way of knowing if you were genuine or just temporary. I cherished those moments as a fan and then as a friend. Today it hurts even more knowing that one of the most powerful voices and patriarchs of our culture has left us with a void by her early departure. To a world that turned darker after March 9th, 1997 due to the passing of her only child, Christopher, Mama Wallace brightened this earth with her amazing guidance and advocacy. We will never forget your son, Christopher Wallace, and your contributions to a better world—my condolences to her family, friends, and fans. Thank you for speaking your truth I love you and will eternally miss you, Mama Wallace.
