Beverly Hills Cop 4 Trailer samples iconic theme & mash-up with Notorious BIG classic
Prepare to be transported back to the neon-soaked streets of the 80s as Netflix drops the trailer for the highly anticipated Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Eddie Murphy, the man who brought Axel Foley to life, is back in action, and hes bringing the iconic synth tones of the Beverly Hills Cop theme song with him. Some might know the theme music as crazy frog, but its actually, Axel F a track that perfectly captures the essence of the 80s. Originally composed by the German maestro Harold Faltermeyer, this electronic instrumental masterpiece served as the theme for the 1984 blockbuster Beverly Hills Cop, propelling itself to international number-one hit status in 1985.
Faltermeyer, armed with an arsenal of synthesizers, crafted the unforgettable soundscape of Axel F. The Roland Jupiter-8, Moog modular synthesizer, Roland JX-3P, Yamaha DX7, and LinnDrum all played a part in creating the magic. Interestingly, the initial reaction to the musical cues from the films producers wasnt immediate approval. It took the endorsement of director Martin Brest to ignite the enthusiasm that eventually turned Axel F into a cultural phenomenon.
The song not only graced the Beverly Hills Copsoundtrack but also found a home on Faltermeyers 1988 album Harold F. as a bonus track. To give fans a visual treat, Faltermeyer even directed a music video featuring himself sneaking into a computer room, donned in an overcoat, hat, and sunglasses, while playing the synthesizer amidst scenes from the film.
Fast forward to 2024, and Eddie Murphy is reprising his role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Directed by Mark Molloy, this installment arrives three decades after the last film in the franchise, Beverly Hills Cop III. The trailer not only reintroduces us to the beloved characters but also scores extra points for blending Harold Faltermeyers iconic theme music with The Notorious B.I.G.s Going Back to Cali.
In this latest adventure, Murphys detective is joined by a new partner, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. With Axels daughters life hanging in the balance, he reunites with old pals Lt. Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sgt. John Taggart (John Ashton) to solve the mystery.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon make their debut in the Beverly Hills Cop universe, joining a star-studded cast that includes Taylour Paige as Foleys estranged daughter, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Mark Pelligrino.
Directed by Mark Molloy, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Fpromises to be a nostalgic trip with a fresh twist, as the 80s synths blend seamlessly with the modern beats of a new era. Get ready for the summer of 2024 when Axel Foley rides again, and the streets of Beverly Hills pulse with the rhythm of Axel F.
